Social Information on Disability (SID)

Social Information on Disability (SID), is a registered charity (Registered Charity No. 1110708). Based in Leatherhead, Surrey (in the UK), the organisation undertakes work on a local, countywide and regional basis related to disability information.

SID’s aim is to ensure that disabled people have the information they need in order to have choice and equality of opportunity in their daily lives. To achieve this SID provides support and develops information services, resources and networks.

SID seeks to advance choice and equality of opportunity for disabled people and carers by providing and promoting access to high quality information.

Through SID’s work it seeks to achieve the following outcomes:

  • Disabled people and carers are better informed about their options
  • Disability information providers are better supported to work together to achieve their common aims
  • Individuals and organisations have the information resources they need to enable them to make the best choices

People using SID’s services will feel that they are:

  • Respected as individuals
  • Accessing a good quality service
  • Dealing with an organisation committed to promoting equality of opportunity
  • Able to influence the development of the service

SID provides an information service for people who live or work in Surrey. It is for all age groups and all disabilities. Get in touch if you want to find answers to questions such as -

The opportunity to buy or sell second-hand disability equipment locally, via SID, has proved so popular that a separate website – AskDES (Disability Equipment Service)- has been launched covering other counties in the South East of the UK as well.

SID also produces a range of information resources, both printed and online, for disabled people in Surrey a nd beyond.
