Disability Challengers

I first wrote an entry on Disability Challengers for a previous version of this website. And, once again, I was reminded of the fantastic resource we have right here on our Farnham doorstep only the other day following a family day out to Bocketts Farm near Leatherhead where a group from Disability Challengers was also present.

Disability Challengers is a registered charity based in Guildford, Surrey in the United Kingdom. They support children and young people with any form of sensory, physical or learning impairment by providing a range of fun and challenging physical activities for children of all abilities.

Their facilities are open to families, special schools, hospitals, children’s homes and other organisations.

During the Easter and Summer holidays Challengers run play sessions at their headquarters in Guildford and also in Farnham, where they have now acquired a building which they are currently adapting to their needs.

On the third Saturday of every month Challengers run a session at the Guildford Spectrum leisure pool. We regulary use these sessions and they are brilliant. The sessions are closed to the public and are consequently less stressful than a public session.

As a local charity to us we have been able to use the holiday play sessions on a number of occasions (although demand is high – so book early to avoid disappointment!) as well as the after school playschemes (with a minibus pick-up from my son’s school – fantastic). A charity to restore one’s faith in human-kind.
